It’s already here if you live in the USA. Goog 411 is one of Google’s latest venture, this time into the directory enquiries market. If you’re in the US simply dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800 466-411 in old money), an automated system asks you what you want – business name or category choose the one you want from the list and you’re connected. It’s completely free and if you call from a cellphone you’ll also get text information, and you’ll also get a map, if you say ‘mapit’ if you are using a web phone or calling through the Internet. So far the service is only available in the US, and there’s no word on a UK version yet, but knowing Google it’s probably only a matter of time…
