HTC Magic
The second device launched by the joint-venture HTC and Google â HTC Magic aka G2, suggests that the new Android-branded phones have great potential on the smartphone market. Updated to the latest firmware version, including Cupcake 1.5, HTC Magic is now shadowed by its new brother, HTC Hero, which features the new Sense GUI developed by the Taiwanese manufacturer. Still, Magic owners will be happy to find that HTC officially announced that they would be able to update their devices with the new Sense GUI, if their Magic smartphones were unlocked. Yes, those that got their devices from network carriers like T-Mobile or Vodafone will not be able to take advantage of the new GUI offered by HTC.
Announced in February 2009, HTC Magic hit the shelves three months later, in May 2009. The device is available in two classical colors: black and white. HTC Magic can be bought for around 450 USD, but that depends on location and plan. I suggest buying the unlocked version, so you can get the new graphical user interface that has been included with the Hero model. Read more
Nokia N97
The long waiting time is over and we can finally say something about the so much acclaimed N97 smartphone â the iPhone’s main rival suggested by Nokia. At first glance, besides the innovative design, the new top of the line touchscreen smartphone manufactured by the Finnish giant has been gifted with almost the same features as the older Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handset. That means it includes the same operating system, processor, HSDPA 3.6Mbps, Wi-Fi, built-in GPS receiver, and the list can go on. Still, the main things that differentiate the two handsets are the full QWERTY keyboard of N97 and the bigger touchscreen. If Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was released as the first Nokia smartphone to feature a touchscreen and an updated Symbian operating system that could go with it, the N97 should have been a piece of art from this point of view.
There were lots of bugs present in 5800’s platform and the OS seemed rather rudimentary, but Nokia managed to solve most of them by a wide sequence of firmware updates. Still, the graphical interface, as well as the basic control of the menus remained the same. This shouldn’t be that bad, but when you intend to compete with one of the most successful smartphones on the market, the iPhone, you must provide something that has at least equal value. Either Nokia managed to do that with the N97 or not, we will see in the following review, so read and judge for yourselves. Read more
Watch This Space
Itâs not exactly a new idea and over the past few years watch phones have come and gone with alarming rapidity but two of the mobile phone worldâs heavy hitters are about to re-launch the concept, so beloved of science fiction and not forgetting Dick Tracey who started it all. Within the next few weeks both LG and Samsung will be selling wristphones in the UK. Samsung are kicking off with the S9110, it has a 1.76-inch touch screen, built-in MP3 player, speaker, Bluetooth and at under 12mm thick, itâs one of, if not the slimmest offering to date. LGâs wristphone is the GD910 and it has a slightly smaller 1.4-inch screen, but itâs also very well equipped with voice recognition, MP3, Bluetooth and a text to speech feature. No word on whether they tell the time or not, but I think we can take that as readâŠPrices are expected to in the ÂŁ350 to ÂŁ400 bracket. Whether or not they catch on remains to be seen but Iâm still a bit concerned about the odd looks youâll be getting talking to your watch, not to mention letting everyone in earshot hear your phone calls, unless you pop in an earphone or Bluetooth headset, which sort of defeats the objectâŠ

LG GD910 Watch Phone
According to the latest news on the Web, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is set to start shipping its LG GD910 watch phone on the European market as soon as next month. The device will come to European users on the airwaves of Orange, and it is expected to become available in Asia, Middle East, Australia and Latin America later this year.
The main selling point of the LG GD910 is the wrist watch shape it comes in, complemented by the 7.2Mbps HSDPA capabilities and the video calling functionality, which, even if it is not very practical, is still a nice feature on such a piece of hardware. In addition, the phone also comes with a 1.43-inch touchscreen display, and TTS (Text To Speech) capabilities. Read more
Live Photos of Nokia 6790
The Nokia Mako was spotted into the wild only a week ago, when most of AT&T’s roadmap for 2009 surfaced on Engadget, and the handset already made it into a series of live pictures that BGR has recently published.
Nokia 6790, codenamed Mako, comes to the market with a sliding QWERTY keypad and with 3G capabilities, and it seems that it will be heading towards AT&T’s lineup in a slightly different design than what anyone would expect from a Nokia mobile phone. Even so, there are a lot of features that remind us of any other handset coming from the manufacturer.
Interestingly enough, it seems that the new Nokia Mako will not come to the market as a high-end device, as one would expect, given its looks, but, BGR says, it rather fits in line with mobile phones like the Samsung Propel, LG Xenon and Pantec Matrix. Read more
Nokia E63 Review
The Eseries from Nokia continues to spawn new devices on the handset market, this time a cheaper version, but with enough up-to-date features to have some success. The Nokia E63 smartphone competes with its more rich-featured brother E71. If you’re looking for a business phone and do not have the amount to acquire the top of the line E71, then the new Nokia E63 can easily take its place. While there are some design and feature differences between the two, the latter is definitely excellent value for money.
Announced in November 2008, Nokia E63 was made available on the market just in time for Christmas, in December 2008. The price of the smartphone is pretty cheap compared to what it can do â 250USD. The phone was launched in three colors: Ultramarine Blue, Ruby Red and Black. Read more
Nokia E52 Unveiled to the World
It seems that today Polish mobile phone users in Warsaw could have a look at yet another nice mobile phone the Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia unveiled in the country, the Nokia E52, which is reported to boast impressive talk time, namely eight full hours on a single charge. The new handset comes to the market both as an upgrade to the popular E51 as well as a traditional candybar version of the E75.
Our own Cosmin Vasile was at the event, which celebrates 1 million Eseries handsets sold in Poland since 2007, and he says that, among the specifications that the new Nokia E52 comes with, we can count the 2.4-inch display that can provide a 320 x 240 pixel QVGA resolution as well as support for 16 million colors, and a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper, which also sports flash, noise cancellation technology and 3G, HSDPA, HSUPA, WLAN and EGPRS connectivity. LG KP501 Cookie Review
One of the cheapest touchscreen phones on the market, the new LG KP501, also known as Cookie, should not be considered a low-budget one. Slim and lightweight, the handheld uses the same proprietary LG flash UI, which has been improved lately. The affordable touchscreen phone was introduced by Orange into its network distribution line thanks to the huge success that the previously black Cookie (LG KP500) had since its launch in November 2008. Simple and elegant, LG KP501 promises great value for money, but also more colors available for customers.
Following the overwhelming market success of LG KP500, dubbed Cookie, LG decided to launch a sequel in partnership with Orange. Announced in January 2009, the new LG 501 Cookie was made available the next month, in February, and can be acquired for around 150 USD, free of plan, but can also go as low as 20 USD with a 24-month contract with Orange. The phone is available in a wide range of colors: Anodizing Silver, Capri Green, Pink and Black. Read more
