The Nokia Mako was spotted into the wild only a week ago, when most of AT&T’s roadmap for 2009 surfaced on Engadget, and the handset already made it into a series of live pictures that BGR has recently published.

Nokia 6790, codenamed Mako, comes to the market with a sliding QWERTY keypad and with 3G capabilities, and it seems that it will be heading towards AT&T’s lineup in a slightly different design than what anyone would expect from a Nokia mobile phone. Even so, there are a lot of features that remind us of any other handset coming from the manufacturer.

Interestingly enough, it seems that the new Nokia Mako will not come to the market as a high-end device, as one would expect, given its looks, but, BGR says, it rather fits in line with mobile phones like the Samsung Propel, LG Xenon and Pantec Matrix. Read more

Microsoft is planning to release an alternative to Apple’s iPod Touch devices in the fall of 2009 under the Zune brand umbrella. At least for 2009, the Redmond company will continue to sell the now traditional versions of its digital music player along with the new device, but it indicated that moving forward the evolution of Zune would be synonymous with Zune HD. The Zune HD portable media player would be made available exclusively in the US this fall, Microsoft revealed.

“The Zune music player is an integral part of the overall Zune experience, and we’re proud to be growing and extending our offering beyond the device,” revealed Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president of the Microsoft TV, Video and Music Business Group. “Delivering on Microsoft’s connected entertainment vision, this news marks a turning point for Zune as it brings cross-platform experiences and premium video content to living rooms around the world.” Read more

w7 150x150 Windows 7 Pre Beta Released to DevelopersMicrosoft has been busy showing journalists some interesting bits of Windows 7, which you can expect to see on a new PC near you sometime in 2010 or 11, probably… Anyway, the OS still very much in its early stages of development is now being made available to developers to tinker with. Most of the new features have been heavily trailed so there’s no big surprises but the Touch screen stuff does look very impressive. It’s all very Minority Report, with lots of finger wiggling and hand movements, making things whizz around the screen, and pictures twist, tumble, enlarge and reduce, the only thing it doesn’t do is clean off the sticky finger marks afterwards

Top-Ten-Notebooks-You-Couldnt-Do-WithoutMobile computing has conquered both the high-end and the mainstream markets and analysts claim that the number of sold notebooks will outpace desktop systems by 2010. Mobile gaming is still a niche market, dominated by bulky notebooks with significant price tags, but most of the general-purpose laptops deliver optimal performance at a reasonable price tag.

The first entry in the mainstream notebook line-up is the Acer Aspire 5920 model, that comes rigged with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 chip running at 1.6 GHz. The system also packs 2 GB of DDR2 memory and runs Windows Vista Home Premium. The 15.4-inch LCD display sports anti-glare technology that boosts the video output and offers a comfortable computer experience. The system sells for about $910 via the company’s retail outlets. JWD-6500-PMP-To-Use-Microsoft-PlayFXA new brand in the electronics industry, JWD has announced its intention of launching a new portable media player, which is going to be called PMP 6500. At a first glimpse, the good news is it doesn’t take on some other hot items on the market. It reveals a 2.8-inch TFT LCD 262K colors screen display. The player’s design line is not bad either, since milky white casing has always been fashionable.

Nevertheless, the coolest feature on the player’s specs list is its Microsoft Play FX capability. This means it allows users to take advantage of the latest technology in the gaming area, such as 3D sound effects, automatic volume adjustment and pure bass enhancement for the sound capabilities. A while ago, we have introduced you to Pasen ShakeIT, the first PMP ever to use the PlayFX tech. Read more
