Windows Live SkyDrive
Microsoft is increasing the capacity offered by its storage service in the Cloud fivefold. This means that users of Windows Live SkyDrive will be able to enjoy no less than 25GB of free online storage. The move comes as a natural evolution of the Windows Live suite of services and applications towards the full implementation of Wave 3. Microsoft indicates that it is currently hammering away at the finishing touches for Windows Live SkyDrive Wave 3, and offers users a taste of what it is in store for them.

Hitachi Hard Drive with Half a Brain
I am so old that I can remember when PC’s boasted having one kilobyte (1kb) of storage and I can still recall placing a special order, and waiting weeks for 1Mb hard disc drive, which I was convinced that I could never fill in my lifetime… So it is with a world-weary shrug that I learn than Hitachi is planning to market a 5 terabyte hard drive, probably within the next 18 months.
What makes this particularly interesting, not to say a bit spooky, is that Hitachi’s Dr Yoshihiro Shiroishi reckons that just two of them will be need to match the storage capacity of the human brain, which he estimates around 10Gb. Frankly I find that hard to believe; a lifetime of memories in a mere 10Tb, when a 2–hour movie swallows up 5 gigabytes? There must be some pretty impressive compression involved… Read more
Canon Prints on the Move
It might look like something you would use to keep your sandwiches and a cold drink in, but what you are looking at here is the new Canon Selphy CP770 ‘home photo lab’ dye sublimation colour printer. The integrated carry-pack makes it easy to transport and it also provides storage space for paper and consumables, and an optional battery pack. Features include a bright, angled 2.5-inch LCD, it has a memory card reader for direct printing, there’s auto image correction with face brightness compensation, auto red eye correction, infrared data link and big, easy to use controls. Prints take around 52 seconds and Canon reckons they should last upwards of 100 years, we shall see…
Gmail Now Offering 4GB Storage
A few days ago, the Mountain View super giant announced that it has decided to speed up the Gmail storage size counter in order to offer more space for the registered users. Previously, the Google mail technology offered 2,8GB of storage size but the counter was continuously increasing it. Today, the storage space reached 4GB of storage, at this time Gmail offering 4222.173152 megabytes (and counting) of free storage.
Since Gmail was released on April 1, 2004, it quickly attracted users’ attention because it provided no less than 1 GB storage capacity, the largest capacity ever implemented into a mail technology at that time. Although it was available only by invitation, almost every user who wanted an account managed to get one since every registered Gmail member received 100 invites. Read more
