WiMAX-Gains-Some-SpeedThe WiMAX mobile communication technology is finally ready to go from the lab to the field testing phase and this fact makes all major telecommunication companies face a few important decisions that they should undertake concerning their 4G strategies.

According to the news site digitimes, the research firm ABI Research expects that the first WiMAX real world deployments would convince the major players in that field to more readily adopt the new standard. It is said that most mobile communication operators are expected to sooner or later field WiMAX technologies and networks all over the world, mainly using the 2.5GHz and the 3.5GHz frequencies.

“The mobile industry is in a state of major change as mobile operators decide which IP-OFDMA path they will take for their 4G networks,” says ABI Research principal mobile broadband analyst Philip Solis. “The new and unproven (on a large commercial scale) mobile WiMAX has positioned itself against the potential Goliath that LTE (Long Term Evolution) is expected to become.” Read the rest of this entry »

Zune 2.0 is not a response to Apple’s new lineup of iPods released just a month ago, but simply the natural evolution of the device. The Redmond company revealed for some time that it was cooking an overhaul to Zune, and the two new models unveiled are nothing more than a consequence of the planned growth. Chairman and Corporate Vice President J Allard focused not only on Zune 2.0 but also on the new release of firmware for the players and the new version of the online store accompanying the devices.

“Twenty years ago we bet the company on an integrated productivity suite of word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, and we changed the way people work,” Gates said. “Today we’re making big bets on games, music, video and connecting these entertainment experiences to help change the way people play.” is betting strong on two new features for Zune 2.0. First off, all devices will synchronize with PCs via Wi-Fi connections, streamlining the process. And on top of that, Zune 2.0 models come with the new Zune Pad, a touch-sensitive button. iPod touch owners get cheap Wi-FiThe Cloud is offering a new service called Cloud Unlimited Music, which offers unlimited Wi-Fi access for only £3.99 a month - but only if you own an iPod touch.

All other devices will still be charged at the usual rate of £6.99 per month. Despite the discounted price, the offer is completely independent of - no subsidy is being offered by the iPod’s manufacturer. The deal also includes full internet access, unlike the recent Starbucks deal, which saw users restricted to the iTunes store.

Despite it’s earlier claims that iPhone is no threat to lucrative smartphone multimedia computer business, Nokia was really frightened by it and started scrambling for an answer literary the next day. Result of that is new Nokia N98 who really looks like iPhone, but when you look at specifications there is huge advantage over iPhone.
